The Marshall Learning Center provides free tuition engaging lessons which support children’s education and well-being by applying researched-based neuroscience principles. The program incorporates activities for their parents and caretakers to build stronger families with sound support systems. Under the nonprofit Marshall Hope Corporation, Marshall Learning Center recognizes that ESL children deserve consistent programming and support. We are committed to doing so.
We strive to support underserved immigrant children with consistent and permanent programs that foster the social, academic, emotional, and physical well-being. Our programs are focused on expanding their horizons in a caring and safe environment conducive to learning.
We developed a complete program that meets high standard learning objectives by creating a collaborative network of businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions, and private citizens which together support children and youth.
It is our goal to provide a daily program to many children one day. For that, we need to have a larger budge to pay salaries and a learning building available to the community. Please let us know if you would like to brainstorm possibilities!
Thank you,
Tatiana J Klein

Our History
After Marshall Hope Corporation was established as a nonprofit organization, Tatiana J Klein was brought on board to expand the services to the immigrant community with a comprehensive educational program. Bringing 16 years of experience working in children’s after-school programs, Klein was instrumental in launching the Marshall Learning Center, building on the successful ESL adult education program already running at Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Having parents and children learning together is a way to impact the whole family. The doors opened in 2022 with 35 students, and now the program holds 60 students and is still growing. Students attend various public schools in Anne Arundel County. All programs are at no cost to the families. We aim to develop leadership among our students, and now, some of our alumni have returned to assist our programs. As Program Director, Klein works without a salary, channeling the center’s funds toward securing high-quality teachers instead.
Students have sung at the Annapolis Mayor’s office, have had their art exhibited at the Historic Annapolis Museum and Maryland Hall, have participated in programs with the Anne Arundel County police and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and have learned to swim and canoe. In academics, they have learned chess, coding, STEM-related programs, mathematics, writing, reading comprehension, and have participated in book clubs. Marshall Learning has placed three students, with full scholarship offers, at St. Anne’s Middle School and Severn School. Each year, St. Anne’s reaches out and asks us to recommend children because they know we train them to be successful students.
The Marshall Center has professional teachers from Anne Arundel Community College and private schools such as Key School and Indian Creek School, as well as retired teachers with special needs backgrounds from public schools. In the summer, we hire college students attending MIT, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown University, University of Maryland, and Cornell University. These tutors develop strong relationships with the kids and often mentor and tutor them online during the year, free of charge. This extra support is invaluable, as many of the students' parents do not speak English, nor do they have the academic background to help their children. In addition, the center provides many opportunities for area high school students to meet their volunteer requirements. Our program also helps students who want to attend college, whether a two-year program at a community college or a four-year program. We are proud to say we have had students go on to enroll at Anne Arundel Community College, Dartmouth College, University of Maryland, UMBC, and York College.
